What Is the Association Between Vitamin D and Hemodialysis

What Is the Association between Vitamin D and Hemodialysis?

• Vitamin D deficiency is common in hemodialysis patients. Vitamin D regulates calcium and phosphorus metabolism and prevents osteoporosis in hemodialysis patients.

• Vitamin D controls blood glucose levels. Sufficient dietary intake of vitamin D lowers blood glucose levels in hemodialysis patients.

• Vitamin D. Seventeen clinical research papers examined the association between vitamin D and blood glucose control in 131 hemodialysis patients without diabetes aged 40–50. Supplementation with vitamin D was found to lower fasting glucose and parathyroid hormone levels in hemodialysis patients. However, no effect was observed on the fasting insulin level.
