• Chromium is an essential nutrient that supports insulin function and regulates blood glucose levels. Chromium has antioxidant and anti- inflammatory properties. Low blood levels of chromium are common in patients with type 2 diabetes.

• Chromium activates insulin receptor proteins and increases insulin sensitivity. Supplementation with chromium decreases blood glucose levels and alleviates the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.

Chromium. Thirteen randomized controlled trials investigated the association between chromium supplements and type 2 diabetes. The doses of chromium supplements ranged from 42 to 1,000 mcg, and the duration of the studies was 30–120 days. The meta-analysis confirmed that supplementation with chromium lowered fasting blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients as well as in prediabetic individuals.
